“Let It Snow, Let It Snow:” Northerners pride ourselves on toughing out the dark winters, and we even find great beauty in this time of year. Today we will focus on the spiritual significance of both the darkness and the brightness.

Everyone is welcome to join the new Adult Religious Education series, “The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience.” Topics include: Does God exist? Do we have a soul? Is it possible to make contact with a spiritual realm? How should we respond to the divine? Will life continue beyond death.

 

DISCUSSION GROUPS

Men's Discussion Group meets on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. at the Fellowship

All are invited to attend this potluck followed by discussion. Main course provided by Frank, others to bring a dish to pass and beverage of your choice. New members welcome. Contact Dick Fields, dmafields@yahoo.com, for more information.

Our hearts are saddened to learn that Candace ZahnCain has died.

There will be a memorial service at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for Candace ZahnCain Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. A luncheon will follow the service. All are welcome.

 

Candace's sons (Erick and Zack) have requested that cards and memorials to go to their home in the Twin Cities and addressed to:

For Candace's service we will provide appetizers and desserts that are considered finger foods so we can serve them on napkins. If you would like to contribute, please email Kate at upnorthkate@gmail.com with your name, food you will bring, and approximate quantity it will serve.

We also ask that you have your dish to the fellowship by 12:30pm on Saturday. We will have a table for drop off. If you have a serving platter/plate/dish that needs to be returned, please label it with your name and phone number. We will have masking tape and sharpies available but it would be great if you label ahead of time.

  • Frederick Place in Rhinelander has a sizeable number of dates open for meals. If you can help out with one of these dates you can either call Frederick Place at 715-369-9777 or email Tammy Modic at frederickplace@ gmail.com
  • Wade Fernandez & family will be at Tara & Jerry’s Saturday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.

     Email jerryw@earlham.edu for reservations, including the number in your party. Donations of $10 to $15 per person go to the performer. Directions from Paul Bunyan’s on 51 in Minocqua: Take Old Highway 70 west one mile to Dr. Pink on the left. Take Dr. Pink 0.8 mile south.

  • Seven artists, including Jana Mirs, Toni Polfus and Phyllis Schuit, will present their work at an Artists' Home Show Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.. The show will be held at 7164 Clawson Drive in Hazelhurst –- the home of Phyllis Schuit and David Barnhill. A variety of media will be represented, including textiles, pottery, wearables, painting and ornaments. All items will be for sale.
  • The NUUF holiday service will be Sunday, Dec. 17, at 4 p.m. A potluck will follow at 5:00. This years theme will be "My Thoughts on Christmas" If you would like to share your thoughts about Christmas during the service contact Patty Buehler at pattybuehler@yahoo.com or 715-356-7834. Music will be performed by the NUUF choir and other groups. The choir needs more singers. Please contact Patty if you can help the choir out for this service. Practices will be on some Thursday mornings at 9:30 and some Tuesday nights at 7:00. We'll also practice right before the service at 3:00. If you can make 3 practices you can learn the 4 songs we'll be singing. Contact Patty to join the choir.
