Nov. 19, The Spiritual Brain, Lecture 13: “Transmitters to God” and   Lecture 14: “Stimulated States and Religious Experiences.”

 

Everyone is welcome to join the new Adult Religious Education series, “The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience.” Topics include: Does God exist? Do we have a soul? Is it possible to make contact with a spiritual realm? How should we respond to the divine? Will life continue beyond death.

Men's Discussion Group meets on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Fellowship

Women's Discussion Group meets on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Fellowship

  • To celebrate the start of National Hospice month, please plan to attend the screening of “Defining Hope” Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Minocqua Public Library, hosted by Doctor Kate Hospice, part of Ascension at Home. The subject is what the hospice team is about every day: how to help families and individuals define "Quality of Life" for them. This event will be considered the November inservice for all hospice volunteers.
  • Sharon Reilly will host a Sketching Birds class, offered through Nicolet College, those interested in participating will need to register ASAP.

     Course information: Nicolet College Course Number 5085, Saturday, Nov. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 8625 Peggy Lane in Woodruff.

     In this class, I will demonstrate how to sketch birds more accurately through a better understanding of bird anatomy, and recognizing the importance of posture, proportion and overall shape. I will share my tips on how to view and sketch birds from multiple angles.   • The AAUW Northwoods and Wausau branches and the League of Women Voters are proud to co-sponsor “A Year of Resistance: The Work of the ACLU in Wisconsin and the Nation” presented by Mary Jo McBrearty, ACLU statewide board president, Monday, Nov. 6, at The Waters of Minocqua.

     Gathering and open bar at 4:30 p.m. Gathering and open bar. Buffet dinner at 5 p.m. followed by the program at 6 p.m. Price is $20 and includes tax and gratuity.      Since 1920, the ACLU has been the nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country.

     The ACLU is best known for litigation efforts as the country’s largest public interest law organization; many of the ACLU’s ground-breaking cases have changed lives and made history.The ACLU of Wisconsin is the state affiliate of the national ACLU and is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, private organization. The ACLU of Wisconsin has 24,000 members and is dedicated to defending the civil liberties and civil rights of all Wisconsin residents.

  • LiL Rev at Tara and Jerry's Saturday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m.

     Lil Rev is known for his ukulele, mandolin, harmonica, banjo, guitar, and vocals. Elsewhere he performs for kids, seniors, veterans, developmentally disabled and anyone with ears enough to listen.

     Rev’s repertoire includes traditional and original songs, poetry, and stories. Audiences sing-along, clap, laugh, and even shed a tear. He is a preeminent ukulele instructor with seven instructional books to his credit. Lil Rev tours North America appearing at festival, music stores, house concerts, schools, libraries, coffee shops, and retirement homes coast to coast.

     He been in the Traditional Old Time Music Hall of Fame since 2003, was voted Best Folksinger in Wisconsin in 2004, and was 1996 National Blues Harmonica Champion at Avoca, Iowa. For more on Lil Rev see lilrev.com and fountainofuke.blogspot.com.

  • Seven artists, including Jana Mirs, Toni Polfus and Phyllis Schuit, will present their work at an Artists' Home Show Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.. The show will be held at 7164 Clawson Drive in Hazelhurst –- the home of Phyllis Schuit and David Barnhill. A variety of media will be represented, including textiles, pottery, wearables, painting and ornaments. All items will be for sale.
  • The NUUF holiday service will be on Sunday, December 17, at 4:00. A potluck will follow at 5:00. This years theme will be "My Thoughts on Christmas" If you would like to share your thoughts about Christmas during the service contact Patty Buehler at pattybuehler@yahoo.com or 715-356-7834. Music will be performed by the NUUF choir and other groups. The choir needs more singers. Please contact Patty if you can help the choir out for this service. Practices will be on some Thursday mornings at 9:30 and some Tuesday nights at 7:00. We'll also practice right before the service at 3:00. If you can make 3 practices you can learn the 4 songs we'll be singing. Contact Patty to join the choir.
