Message from the President

It is nearly July and most of us in the Fellowship are spending as much time out-of- doors as we can, enjoying our brief Northern Wisconsin summer. Family and friends converge 'Up North' making this a very busy, and sometimes hectic, time of the year. The Fellowship is also bustling with activity, especially as we enter the new fiscal year.

I'd like to use this space over the next few months to familiarize you with the activities of the 15 committees that we have in the Fellowship. One of the committees authorized by the By-Laws, and staffed by congregational vote, is the Endowment Committee.

The Endowment Committee is responsible making recommendations to the congregation on endowment funds expenditures. It also tries to 'grow' the endowment, encouraging members to make financial gifts to the fund.

The NUUF is fortunate to have received a few financial gifts (which NUUF has designated 'endowment funds') In the past. Part of the fund has been restricted by the congregation to be used to support community organizations. We call this the 'Beacon of Light' fund. Each year, the endowment committee makes recommendations on how the income from this fund should be spent. Typically, the committee asks for recommendations from the congregation; these are evaluated and two or three organizations are recommended for funding at the Annual Meeting. In 2013 NUUF was able to provide three organizations with grants of approximately $600 each.

The endowment committee is beginning its work for 2013-14. Soon, they will be asking you to nominate organizations in the community that you think worthy of support. I ask you to think about this over the next few months so that you can get your recommendations to the committee in a timely fashion.

The members of the Endowment Funds Committee are:

Shelly Zoars (Chair)

Barb Bratcher

Kay Hoff

Terry Hoyt (ex officio, Treasurer)

John Viste (ex officio, President)

Many thanks! And please, consider a gift to the Fellowship in the future.

John.
