Upcoming Services

Services are on alternate Sundays at 10 AM

July 13: Laura Erickson Laura's Excellent Adventure Part 2: How Laura's Conservation Big Year Turned Out it was filled with fun, adventures, and new commitments for helping the birds that gave me such fun adventures

July 27: Callie Bates Sound and the Sacred. From the Sanskrit “Om” to Pythagoras’ music of the spheres, sound has “played” an essential role in our conception of the sacred. The talk will touch on the mystical aspect of sound, as well as holistic ways we can employ sound in our lives—complete with therapeutic harp music!

Events:

Adult R.E.: Adult RE is on alternate Sundays at 10 AM. We are studying a course entitled “Skeptics and Believers: Religious Debate in the Western Intellectual Tradition”.  Skeptics and Believers is not a course in religious doctrine but one of intellectual and philosophical exploration. It examines more than three centuries of debate in the Western world about the nature of religious faith and its compatibility with reason, even-handedly following and analyzing the arguments of both skeptics and believers. You will see how some of these argued their positions from a religious perspective—primarily Christian and Jewish, since the focus of this course is on Western thought—and how others approached the issue as one of pure philosophy. And you will also encounter still others for whom a separation between these two spheres was impossible, as well as those who sought to explain religion as a psychological or social phenomenon.

Come join us each alternate Sunday at 10:00 A.M. for intellectual stimulation, conversation, coffee, and good company.

From the President: Thank you John Viste for your excellent service to our fellowship as our President and for your continued willingness to assist me as I attempt to walk where you have walked! And thank you to the members of this community for honoring me with this position. Being brand new in the office of President, I have little to share other than the assurance that I will do my best to fulfill my duties. I do wish to share with you my pleasure at the outpouring of appreciation followed by offers of support that have already been given me. It is rewarding to know and to feel the helpful attitudes expressed by so many members before I even take office! My first board meeting as President will be at 2:30 p.m. on July 14, 2014 at the fellowship. If any member has an issue that may need board approval, please contact me soon. Meanwhile, I will spend some time reading the cardboard box full of files John left for me.
